Help with Dutch Oven purchase, please.?
My dad has been wanting one for years, I no nothing other than what I’ve found on the internet.
What has been your experience?
What are the features you think are a *must* and what ones do you feel are not needed. -I am thinking one that has feet since it will provide even cooking and one that also has the upper lip feature so the ash doesn’t get into the pot once the lid is lifted.
What type is the best one? And what ones should I stay away from?
What is a good price for the one(s) your suggesting?
And finally what is the best recipe book for it.

Lodge is an excellent choice – it comes with a lid. Also, the one in the ad you copied is pre-seasoned…it only needs to be wiped out with a damp cloth before you can start cooking in it…don’t forget to wipe the underside of the lid before first use, too. You can also find them in Cabela’s catalog. Just remember, a camp dutch oven isn’t meant for use indoors. If you want a dutch oven for in your kitchen stove or on top, you want one without feet and that has a domed top rather than one with the flange to keep coals on it. The eight quart size will be pretty big – how many is he cooking for? If it’s a family of four or five, the ten-inch size will be much more suitable.
